Kortrijk Art Weekend 2026

For Kortrijk Art Weekend 2026, Atelier Verbeke presents “Splash — Exhibition on Water and Art”.

Four artists from different disciplines come together in an exhibition exploring water — refreshing, purifying, and full of movement. Water symbolizes change and the moment when you take the leap.

David Carpentier presents photographic images of swimming pools, sometimes captured by drone, where stillness and geometry meet. Monica Celsi, from Chile, uses swimmers as a metaphor for crossing and transition, inspired by her own journeys across the ocean. Veerle De Vos gives her “plump ladies” and “men with binoculars” a cheerful, joyful presence that makes you smile and look forward. In his marble sculptures, Luc Verbeke evokes water as a primordial element and source of all life.

Together, these works invite us to reflect on water — as a mirror, as movement, and as a beginning.

Luc Verbeke's portrait

Luc Verbeke

An artist with a passion for creations in stone.

Luc Verbeke combines craftsmanship with an artistic vision and explores the limits of sculpture with all kinds of techniques.

Heavy materials such as marble and sandstone translate into light-looking sculptures and raise a complex network of existential questions.

Luc constructs his works very precisely. His installations are designed to remain standing.

For each artwork he makes in the Italian Bianco Carrara marble, Luc chooses the block of marble in the quarry and does the initial or entire carving and sculpting on site.

Veerle de Vos

Who she is.

Veerle De Vos (b. 1962) is a Belgian artist. After earning a bachelor's degree in psychology and pursuing a career in education as well as in the banking and insurance sectors, her life took an unexpected turn. During her first triathlon, everything suddenly came to a standstill following a serious road cycling accident. What began as a physical setback evolved into a personal turning point, leading her onto a creative path that today feels entirely true to who she is.

What she creates.

Joy lies at the heart of Veerle's work. She creates colourful, playful artworks that emerge intuitively and radiate a sense of lightness. Colour is essential to her artistic language, shaping her visual expression and infusing each piece with warmth and positive energy. Her creations are intended above all to evoke a feeling—of calm, gentleness, and small moments of happiness.

Her work has been featured in the television programme Het Huis and can be found in, among other places, the SHA Wellness Clinic in Albir, Hof ter Saksen in Beveren, the residential care centres in Erps-Kwerps and Lommel, as well as in numerous private homes, gardens, and terraces.

Veerle currently lives and works in Knokke, on Lippenslaan, where she has both her studio and an exhibition space.

A little colour, a little light—and a smile every day.

Living with colours

Monica, a female artist from Chile, is a master of bright, bold, and vibrant colors. Her work is a celebration of life, bursting with energy and passion that reflects the richness of Chilean culture.

Her paintings are like an explosion of colors, as if she's inviting you to join her on a journey through the kaleidoscope of life. Her palette is as diverse as the landscapes and people of her country - from the deep blues of the Pacific Ocean, to the fiery oranges of the Atacama desert, to the lush greens of the Andean forests.

Each of Monica's paintings is a riot of colors, with bold brushstrokes and dynamic compositions that capture the essence of Chilean life. Her works range from stunning geometric artworks inspired by the Mexican architect Luis Barragán, paintings inspired by Alfons Mucha or she is able to capture even your pet, car or loved ones in lifelike on her canvas.

Monica's paintings are an expression of her passion for life, her love of Chilean culture, and her commitment to using bright, bold, and beautiful colors to create works of art that uplift and inspire. With her paintbrush, she brings to life the spirit of Chile and shares it with the world in all its colorful glory.

Hurry, because this could be your blank canvas :-)
