Expos

During the 'Knoflook Kunstroute', a retrospective of Laurent Geers' work is being showcased at Atelier Verbeke. Laurents' fantastic oeuvre includes Rubenesque sculptures of women in polyester, bronze or 3D mosaics, as well highly realistic still lifes of cheese, charcuterie, and pastries made in marble. The exhibition features works from 1979 to the present.

During the 'Buren bij Kunstenaars' ('Neighbors with Artists') weekend, more than 400 artists present their works in their own studios or in group exhibitions at various locations in South-West Flanders. Luc Verbeke was one of the participants with an exhibition at Atelier Verbeke.

On the occasion of Kortrijk Art Weekend, Atelier Verbeke presents “Over the Ocean”.

The exhibition “Over the Ocean” brings together two worlds, where the power of nature and culture merge through art. We witness a unique dialogue between the monumental sculptures of Luc Verbeke, who travels between Kortrijk and Carrara, Italy, and the vibrant paintings of Monica Villarroel Celsi, who brings inspiration from her homeland, Chile, to Kortrijk. What connects these two artists is the ocean—not just as a physical distance, but as a symbolic space where their creative visions converge.

While Verbeke’s sculptures reflect the strength and solidity of the earth, Villarroel Celsi’s paintings bring to life the fluidity and emotion of nature. In this unique dialogue between two continents, cultures, and art forms, the artists invite you to embark on a journey where the ocean dissolves within your imagination.

Kortrijk Art Weekend 2024

For Kortrijk Art Weekend, Atelier Verbeke presents “Force and Feathers”, with sculptures by Luc Verbeke and zinc paintings by Heidi Leman.

Luc’s marble works reveal fracture lines, rough textures, and unfinished surfaces—reminders of both origin and transformation. Rather than fully controlling the stone, he lets the material speak back, turning sculpture into a dialogue.

Heidi paints on weathered zinc, a medium that carries its own scars. This adds sculptural depth to her fragile yet powerful imagery, which speaks of destruction, vulnerability, and the search for balance.

Together, their works form a conversation between force and fragility, permanence and transience.
