Kortrijk Art Weekend 2025

Heidi Leman & Luc Verbeke

Kortrijk Art Weekend 2025

For Kortrijk Art Weekend, Atelier Verbeke presents “Force and Feathers”, with sculptures by Luc Verbeke and zinc paintings by Heidi Leman.

Luc’s marble works reveal fracture lines, rough textures, and unfinished surfaces—reminders of both origin and transformation. Rather than fully controlling the stone, he lets the material speak back, turning sculpture into a dialogue.

Heidi paints on weathered zinc, a medium that carries its own scars. This adds sculptural depth to her fragile yet powerful imagery, which speaks of destruction, vulnerability, and the search for balance.

Together, their works form a conversation between force and fragility, permanence and transience.

    Heidi Leman's portrait

    Heidi Leman

Heidi Leman creates at the intersection of fragility and strength, exploring how materials, form, and emotion intertwine. Her practice moves between abstract sculpture and figurative ceramics, guided by intuition and a deep sensitivity to the tactile qualities of her materials.

Working with paper, reclaimed zinc, and clay, she lets each element reveal its own history — dents, tears, and traces that speak of time and transformation. Her sculptures often feel like fragile shelters, evoking intimacy, protection, and introspection, while her figurative pieces draw on gesture and body language to express the essence of human vulnerability.

For Kortrijk Art Weekend 2025, Heidi’s works refer to images of destruction — whether caused by natural forces or by human intervention. The weathered zinc, as both support and material with its own history, gives the paintings a more sculptural dimension. A fragile visual language unfolds, speaking of vulnerability, transience, and the need for grounding.

    Luc Verbeke's portrait

    Luc Verbeke

An artist with a passion for creations in stone.

Luc Verbeke combines craftsmanship with an artistic vision and explores the limits of sculpture with all kinds of techniques.

Heavy materials such as marble and sandstone translate into light-looking sculptures and raise a complex network of existential questions.

Luc constructs his works very precisely. His installations are designed to remain standing.

For each artwork he makes in the Italian Bianco Carrara marble, Luc chooses the block of marble in the quarry and does the initial or entire carving and sculpting on site.
